Our Home Remodeling Process
Each project we work on is unique. We’ve developed an outline for our whole remodeling process to get you the results you’re looking for. Whether this is your first big project or you’ve done several before, we want to make your project as pleasant as possible.
Steps in Our Process
We like to have an initial phone consultation to talk through what you are looking to have done to see if we are a good fit for each other. If you have put together a document regarding your project, such as pictures and thoughts, it would be great to see it. You can email it to us so we can look through it before the consultation.
If things look like we are a good fit, then we will set up an in-person meeting at your home. During our time together, we will go through your project in greater detail while taking notes, photographs, and video. We want as much information as possible. There will likely be some back and forth by phone, text and email so we can give you a good bid.
We’ll send over a draft proposal with details about the work we will do, anticipated timeline, and the projected cost. We normally go back and forth on the proposal, too, since clients will change their minds on things, and we will have suggestions from things we’ve learned in previous projects we’ve done.
Contract and Down Payment
Once the scope of work has been agreed upon, we will get together with you to sign the work order and get a down payment of 40 percent. At this time we will put you on our schedule. We will keep in touch along the way regarding the projected start date. During this time we will also be working on getting any permits that may be needed.
Commencement of Work
Our team will show upon the agreed date and start putting in any plastic and floor protection necessary, and then do any demolition. We expect our clients to remove any personal items that are in the room we are working on and provide a clear path to the room. We will also discuss where you would like us to set up work areas for material storage, clean up, and cutting of lumber and/or tile.
We keep in close touch with our clients throughout the process and want your feedback. Neither of us want any surprises at the end of the project. When we have come to the end of our work, we will go through everything very closely and create a punch list to check off any final details.
Completion of Work
After we have completed the punch list, we will remove all of our tools, leftover materials, and any floor and wall protection we’ve put up. We’ll clean up very thoroughly and do a final walkthrough to make sure everything is okay. When this is completed, you will give us a final check for our work.
We understand that there may be some things you discover later that need some adjustment or fixing, like a cabinet door that squeaks. We ask that you keep a list of these things and we will return to make them right. We generally will return to a client’s home up to three months of completion to take care of anything that needs to be fixed.
